SGX blue chips bought back S$560M of shares in Q1 2026 — is this the dividend boom everyone's been waiting for?
Something significant is happening on the SGX right now and I don't think it's getting enough attention outside of Singapore. The numbers: STI has broken into all-time highs SGX trading volume was up 42% YoY in March 2026 Trading VALUE was up 78% YoY — that's not retail noise, that's institutional money moving S$560M in share buybacks in Q1 2026, up from S$330M in Q1 2025 and S$232M in Q1 2024 Singtel, OCBC, and Keppel alone accounted for nearly 60% of those buybacks. Why now? The setup is rate-driven + structural. Interest rates are finally peaking. REITs like MLT and CLAR that got crushed by high financing costs over the past two years are showing early stabilisation. When rates start declining, the distribution yields on these REITs become more attractive relative to bonds — and re-ratings typically happen fast. The wild card no one is talking about: MAS announced it would work with SGX on a dual listing bridge with Nasdaq, targeting mid-2026 launch. If this happens, it could dramatically expand the quality of companies listing in Singapore and bring in sustained global capital flows. What I'm actually doing: Adding gradually to MLT and CLAR given the rate outlook. Already hold DBS for the earnings visibility and dividend consistency. Watching OCBC for the wealth management growth story. Anyone else positioning for this? Curious what your SGX watchlist looks like right now. Not financial advice. SGX filings are public — always read company disclosures before investing. TAGS: singaporefi, SGX, DBS, OCBC, REITs, dividends, STI, Singapore investing submitted by /u/arrremayu [link] [comments]
